In the midst of this global pandemic, i.e. COVID-19 also known as the coronavirus where everyone is literally locked in their houses waiting for this to be over, and the pharmaceutical universities and corporations working relentlessly to produce some kind of vaccination or treatment for the disease nothing seems to be working till now.

But recently there has been a hunch than hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine may be somewhat successful. So why am I calling this a hunch? I’ll tell you that later but first the question that arises is

WHAT ARE HYDROXYCHLOROQUINE AND CHLOROQUINE? It is a medication that was first approved for the treatment of malaria. It is in the form of an oral tablet. And it shared its structure with Chloroquine.

While chloroquine was discovered first and was approved in 1949, hydroxychloroquine was approved in 1955, and it also preferred above chloroquine because of its fewer side effects.

Now the question is why are hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine being mentioned with COVID-19?

In the recent studies (in vitro) hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine have been showing antiviral properties against the virus causing COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2). In these studies, this drug has been successful in interfering with the chemical environment of the human cell's membrane, which thus prevented the virus from entering and multiplying inside the cells.

Though these studies have somewhat been successful in-vitro that does not always mean that it will work once inside a human body.

Nonetheless, hospitals across the globe have started using hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine for patients with COVID-19. So are hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine the solution for coronavirus? well while it certainly has the potential to be a cure but not enough study has been done to be sure of it.
